Welcome to the website of João Miguel Machado
Hi! And welcome to my personal website! I am currently a post-doctoral research in the Optimal Transportation team, lead by G. Carlier, A. Figalli, Q. Mérigot and F. Santambrogio, from the Lagrange Mathematical and Computational Research Center. I did my PhD at Université Paris-Dauphine and the Mokaplan Inria team under the supervision of Antonin Chambolle and Vincent Duval. Before that I did my studies in Rio, at EMAp FGV under the guidance of Maria Soledad Aronna.
My research is centered on the Calculus of Variations, with a particular focus on Optimal Transport and Geometric Measure Theory to understand geometric structures in variational problems. I am particularly interested in how measures can be approximated by lower dimensional objects, and in how notions of convexity and geometry emerge through transport based formulations.
These ideas play a central role in my work on convergence and stability questions, including the analysis of equilibria for interacting systems, as well as stability for functional inequalities and variational problems.
You can find some of my recent publications in the Publications section, feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
